Just when I had given up on finding anywhere truly amazing to stay and review in Black River, Jamaica….a completely coincidental meeting happened by accident and it changed everything! I’ve reviewed plenty of accommodations in the Black River / Parottee area but none are quite as breathtaking and beautiful as this one.
This villa is BRAND NEW and wasn’t even ready for guests yet when I was invited to come try it out. The owner needed the promotion and I was looking for a new place to be so it was a match made in heaven. In fact, the villa is so new that it didn’t even have a name yet so my travel partner and I got to help name it, train the staff and add our little touches to make it ready for guests.
Barefoot Villa is aptly named because you’re so close to the Caribbean Sea and the swimming pool that you’ll never have a desire to wear flip flops again! You may not even have a desire to leave the property….ever! I’m the queen of “doing road” but all that stopped once I arrived here because I was just so comfortable and inspired to stay put.
Barefoot Villa is located on Crane Road less than 10 minutes drive from the Black River town center. It has a total of four large bedrooms to accommodate up to eight guests. The first bedroom is on the main floor with a queen bed and opens onto the sparkling blue pool right outside your patio doors. The second and third bedrooms are on the top floor, both with queen beds and both open onto an amazing veranda that spans the whole width of the house. From up there you see nothing but the sea and empty beach as far as the eye can see. The fourth bedroom is upstairs, faces the road and has two single beds.
Each of the four bedrooms has walk-in closets, ceiling fans, air conditioning and huge ensuite bathrooms for complete privacy. With the south coast trade winds I never even used my ceiling fan once, I just opened the windows and let the breeze flow through.
Can you see yourself waking up here?
Please note that these photos were taken before the villa was completely set up for guests. Each bedroom now has window sheers and is completely ready, I just don’t have updated photos yet but really…..who’s caring about sheers with views like this?
As you can see the villa is located about five steps away from the sea on what is virtually your own private beach. In this part of Jamaica there are no other tourists and hardly any other humans on the beach for miles! You might meet the odd local strolling by once in a while and they’ll all greet you with a smile and a friendly hello. If you walk up or down the beach in either direction you’ll come across a few great places to eat and drink, along with some amazing photo opportunities.
In the early morning hours you’ll be able to watch fishermen in their little boats out at sea looking for their daily catch. You’ll also be amused by all the crabs running up and down the sand, battling the sea waves.
And in the evenings you’ll see nothing but breathtaking, spectacular sunsets directly in front of you.
When renting the Barefoot Villa guests have full run of the entire house. On the main floor there’s a huge kitchen complete with everything you need, a large dining room for meal gatherings, a large living room with sofa, loveseat and big comfy chair, stereo and big flat screen TV. There’s also a half bathroom on the main floor. The living area walks out onto the back veranda and pool deck. There’s a stainless steel barbecue in the yard and a thatch-roof bar that was just being built while I was there.
Guests shop for their own groceries at several supermarkets and fresh food markets in Black River, and have the option to cook their own meals or have the on-site staff member prepare meals. Alternately, there are plenty of awesome restaurants and bars within walking distance on the main road that serve every traditional Jamaican meal one can dream of.
The villa is gated on both sides – from the road entrances and from the beach so guests have security and privacy. There is also a staff member who lives in separate helpers quarters on the property and is available for optional meal preparation, cleaning, maintenance and general assistance.
Barefoot Villa is in close proximity to all south coast Jamaica attractions such as Black River Safari tour, Appleton Rum tour, YS Falls, Lovers Leap, and Pelican Bar (the boat can pick you up right outside the beach gate!)Â They also offer airport transfers (additional cost).
The entire villa accommodates up to eight people and rents for $2350.00 USD per week. If you break it down that’s an incredible price to have the entire house and beach to yourselves! The owner would prefer to rent the entire villa rather than by the room, however, please inquire and special consideration may be made.
Trust me, it’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind you’ll find here. You guys know me well, I’m always the one to be out and about all day, every day in Jamaica but once I landed here I practically never left, aside from nighttime outtings in the area.
If you’re not sure about what the south coast and Black River have to offer you really should give it a try. I guarantee you it’s a different Jamaica than you currently know. The people are friendlier, there are ZERO beach hustlers, the vibe is quieter and more peaceful but it’s still not boring down here. During the day there are countless excursions and at night there are plenty of places to park your butt and have some drinks.
You KNOW you want to come here and see it for yourself!
