It seem that a lot of our memories from travels revolve around food. Think Jamaica and we think mouth watering charcoal smelling chicken and the freshest of bread so soft that you can practically dissolve its fluffiness in your mouth. We think of coco wata and chewing on the freshest of sugar cane, snacking on crunchy cashews or a multitude of flavored peanuts.
When I was staying in Montego Bay, well let me correct myself, when I was staying in Barrett Town which is probably closer to Falmouth than to Mobay, I had one of the worst meals of my life. No it wasn’t chicken feet or oxs brains or anything gross like that. All I wanted was chicken and rice – something to tie me over before heading out dancing that night. So without causing too much embarrassment to myself or others I basically fed the dog(s) my dinner after one mouthful. Just as well I had a bottle of coke to swish the taste out of my mouth.
So the following evening I’m pretty sure my partner got the hint that roadside food was not always trustworthy and he took me to one of his favorite places to eat as he knew the chef there.
I have tried aimlessly to google this restaurant for more pics than these random iphone images so I promise when I return in a little while I’ll take better ones. Father Bulls restaurant and jerk centre is the best stopover you could make if you had cravings for a hearty meal, a drink, an ice-cream or our new favorite activity (a swing!). If you’re not up with the times, swinging on swings is a must do for adults in Jamaica as well as the children! There were a few different seating options – outdoors, indoors and at the bar. I noticed it was well cleaned and had a very Spanish island feel to it.
We visited on a warm night and there was only one other couple and a few seated at the bar. The chef came out to tell us what he had on the menu and by the size of him I could tell he loved food enough to know good food. The waitress brought us drinks really quickly and asked again if we needed more which, for Jamaica is really good service! I think she was hoping we would spend more money on alcohol but I don’t care because as a big fan of customer service it meant that we were being looked after. I watched a couple come in to buy ice creams and it looked reallllllll good although I had absolutely no room in my belly for any.
The salads were fresh and crispy and the portion size was great considering it wasn’t at all an expensive meal. We ordered the stew chicken and the jerk pork, both equally delicious. The drinks were the most expensive part of the dinner which compared to eating here at home, is very typical so we left early to drink more at home of course!
When I return to this restaurant I’ll definitely book a table at sunset, it had an awesome view right on the ocean and although it was dark and starry when we were there it was still very beautiful to soak it all in and steal a few kisses. Haha making you sick now after you were thinking about all that good food! Feel free to give them a boost and pay a visit next time you are “between townsâ€.
