Cuddy’z Sports Bar – Kingston

One of the evenings I stayed in Kingston I made plans to meet a fellow Canadian for dinner. She suggested Cuddy’z Sports Bar in New Kingston. I really didn’t know anything about Kingston so I was fine with her choice since she’s lived there on and off for years. It’s located at 25 Dominica Drive.

It was interesting driving into New Kingston for the first time but it just reminded me of home….another big city. Not my thing really, I had more fun driving through Arnett Gardens (bad area!!) after dinner. The biggest shocker about going inside this restaurant was the amount of white people! I shouldn’t have been surprised because Kingston is full of them but it still wasn’t what I was expecting.

Cuddy’z is a popular sports bar I found out from Googling it, and it’s owned and run by legendary West Indies cricketer Courtney (Cuddy) Walsh – hence the name. CLICK HERE for a great write-up about it with some daytime pictures.

Four of us had dinner this night and it wasn’t outstanding, it was average. I had a Caesar salad – yes I crave just salad sometimes. The menu had a lot of American food on it and had some Jamaican dishes too, the prices were reasonable. Actually I found prices in Kingston to be the most reasonable of anywhere I’ve been on the island!

The service was really slow for a Tuesday night that didn’t look very busy. The waiter messed up one of our orders and brought a completely wrong dish so we had to wait for the correct replacement. At the end of our meal we were disappointed to see that they didn’t offer any compensation on the bill for the error, we had to ASK for a break on the bill. Finally the manager came to sort it out and we got a free meal.

Anyways it was a nice experience to visit this the place but I’m not sure I’ll visit again, for no other reason than I don’t spend time in Kingston.

  1. Last time I ate there I ended up with a stomach virus!

  2. wow, i didnt realize new kingston was one of the cheaper places to visit. I drove around the area and yeah.. it just looked like a big city with big buildings. When i go to Jamaica… thats not what I’m looking for and I know for a fact the same goes for you!

    1. Yep you got that right Empress….not a city girl at all when it comes to JA. As far as it being cheap, yes I know a lot of people from other areas who come to “town” to shop because it’s cheaper. Makes sense too, everything that comes into JA probably goes through Kgn wholsale and ends up in places like Ochi at retail!

@Princess – Did you really get sick from that place?? Awww man that’s crappy. Sorry to hear that.

  3. Cuddyz is my home away from home bar when I am in jamaica as I mostly stay in Kingston/Saint Andrew. I sometimes do weekend trips to Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or Runaway Bay also Blue Mountain.

    1. Have you been to Cuddy’z at night when its a bar?? Is it any good?

  4. JC….just seeing this…..it is okay……only go there to drink and finger food…..do not like their meals…..it is nothing special. As a bar it is not bad and the ambience is good…..but then I go with my jamaican family.

  5. also it is pretty close to where a I stay in New Kingston
