This is the coolest story. One of my long time blog readers whom I’d never spoken to before July, contacted me because she knew she’d be in Jamaica at the same time as me. We decided to make arrangements to link up and meet for the first time. Turns out her birthday was during our trip and it also turns out that I was already planning a party at a friend’s bar in Ocho Rios, and had a Canadian sound crew coming to Jamaica with me.
Some very good friends of mine from Canada, known as UrbanDK Sound came up with the bright idea to make the party one big bash for Shannon’s birthday! Believe me this was a last minute plan at best! UrbanDK designed flyers and emailed them to me while they were on a stopover on the way to Jamaica!!! I was leaving the next day so I quickly ran to a printer and made up the flyers to bring to Jamaica. Yea we’re that good LOL!

The day before the party we quickly got the flyers ready to hand out around town. July 20 arrived – Shannon’s birthday, and we all gathered at my place in Ochi for a big dinner that one of our friends cooked. Then it was off to the show!

Spotlight Bar is located in Mansfield Heights, Ocho Rios and it’s a tiny place. My friend Prince, who owns it is adding a second level to the place right now but all we had for the party was the main level and the street. And believe me this event turned into a full on street party because everyone wanted to come and see the white dancehall DJ’s from Canada LOL. Our group had all signed a Canadian flag that Shannon brought with her and she left it for Prince to keep at the bar.

The party kicked off around 9:30pm and it was pretty dead except for our group that we brought and a few of Prince’s friends, but we knew it would get busier since we invited a lot of friends from town. Sure enough the tiny bar ended up rammed with people which spilled out into the streets. The bar is in a great location on the corner of two streets in a residential neighborhood. Not much traffic and great exposure. UrbanDK put on a wicked show and the volume was LOUD!

I’m pretty sure we all had a fabulous time that night and we went hard til about 4am. Shannon had a great birthday party, the liquor was flowing and the music and dance were crazy. Our artist friend whom I wrote about in a PREVIOUS POST was also at the party and put on a little show for us all, and he led the happy birthday song for Shannon as you’ll see in the video below. You can also see out the window in the video where people were gathering. It was great.
One thing has led to another since that night and Shannon and I are now business partners! Everything happens for a reason!
