Dub Session With Artist PolkaDat

While in Ocho Rios on my last trip we randomly met a Jamaican artist while eating breakfast at Fishermans beach and it turned into a full on recording session!  On this trip I was with Canada’s UrbanDK Sound, who came to Jamaica to play 3 shows around the island.  I was also with my son, who was also known as DJ Nitris Oxide at this time.  So we had a lot to talk about with this artist since they’re all in the music industry.

Polka Dat aka David Forbes is a local artist from Portmore, St Catherine who now resides in Ocho Rios and is trying to make a name for himself in the industry. The dub session helped all of us out – free promotion for him and some fun recordings for us. I did some research on him and found a couple music videos he’s done on Youtube.

We ended up hanging out with PolkaDat quite a few times on this trip. He came to a birthday bash we had for another Canadian girl the same night of the dub session. I’ll post about the birthday bash at a later date because it was a riot! He also cooked some curry chicken for us one night at our place and it was amazing!

Here’s a video compilation I made of the recording session in our guest house room. It was a very makeshift setup since we had no studio, he sang into a mattress for better sound quality. We did what we could with what we had and it turned out to be a really fun night! This was probably the last thing I expected to do on a random night in Jamaica! Enjoy the video, and there will be more fun footage of PolkaDat and friends in future posts because the man does an AMAZING Bounty Killer  impression which I caught on tape too.
