What do I Bring to Jamaica?

Packing for a Jamaica Vacation

Here I thought I was finished posting until I get to Jamaica in a couple days. Then the thought occurred to me that people ACTUALLY want to know what to bring when going on a Jamaica vacation! So its the day before I’m leaving and I thought I’d share some of my packing staples that maybe people hadn’t thought of.

My journal and Jamaica towel

The MOST IMPORTANT thing I bring is my journal (above). Its what allows me to remember all the tiny details of everything I’ve done on my trip! And I always bring my Jamaica towel for two reasons….#1 I bought it on my first trip 6 years ago, and #2 the people on the beach selling Jamaican towels don’t make me try and buy one LOL.

$20,000 Jamaica dollars = $300 CAD
$20,000 Jamaica dollars = $300 CAD

I know that I’ve said in my JAMAICAN CURRENCY section that you don’t really need to bring much Jamaican dollars when you leave, but in my case I bring enough to pay for my accomodation because my bank places a daily withdrawal limit on my account when I’m abroad.  I like to be able to pay for my rooms up front and get it out of the way.  Check this out….the place I’m staying this time is charging me $24,000 JMD for 2 whole weeks!!!  That breaks down to about $28 a night…WITH a kitchen!!  I’ll post about it when I’m back.

Yes its possible to pack for 2 weeks in ONE suitcase.  All you need in Jamaica are a few pairs of shorts and some sleeveless tops, a swimsuit and undies.  And since most Jamaicans handwash their laundry anyways you can always find clotheslines if you want to handwash any of your own clothing.  Pack light!!  The big blank spot on the right side of my suitcase above is reserved for the ABSOLUTELY necessary speakers!!  If you bring your MP3 player when travel you should definitely bring a small set of computer speakers too…so you can have music in your room LOL!  This is necessary for me.

toiletries

Last but not least, my toiletries.  The essential items are all there and makeup is at a bare minimum.  Ladies, its HOT and HUMID in Jamaica and chances are that any makeup you bring is gonna run off your face anyways.  Save yourself the hassle.  BUT can you spot the most important toiletry in the picture??  Its the small white box….and YES people….its Immodium LOL.  Trust me, bring it.  You will thank yourself later.  It HAS to be the spices!  And the last pretty important thing is sunscreen.

Do you need a passport to go to Jamaica?  YES and DON’T forget it!!  See you later!!
