This is a quickie to update you all on my arrival after hurricane Sandy hit Jamaica.
This morning I had nothing to do so I set out on the road to find somewhere to eat that isn’t where I’d normally go. I headed towards St Mary and stopped at Tower Jerk Restaurant & Bar in Tower Isle. This post isn’t only about the food but also about what I saw on the road on the way. It seems the further east I go, the worse the storm damage. Makes sense, that’s always the way it goes here it seems.
Here’s what the main highway was like moving east from Ocho Rios into St Mary. Lots of huge broken down trees, signs blown over, and tons of crews out on the road cutting the trees into pieces and removing them. Sorry some of the pics are blurry, I was driving while taking them. I wanted to pull over and really get some good ones but there’s just nowhere to pull over that doesn’t have debris swept into piles on the side of the road.
I did see a lot more damage, like light posts on the ground just outside Ocho Rios but it was hard to get pictures. I will be updating with new posts as I see things.
Meanwhile, I had fried chicken for brunch at the jerk restaurant which left a lot to be desired. It doesn’t even make my list of awesome fried chicken around the island. I’m not going to say never go visit the place because almost everywhere I’ve eaten or drank since I arrived is running on generators so I have to be forgiving. Looks good though huh? I paid $550jmd for this dish and a cranberry wata.
And how can anyone complain about eating anything when you’re right across the street from the beautiful sea?
Stay tuned for more blog posts on the storm damage and OF COURSE, more awesome stuff I’m doing! My rental car, my first hotel nights in a new place and much more whenever I have internet.
MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT to the people of Jamaica who are full of vibes in spite of the storm and it’s damages. We are still partying by candlelight and car stereo sound!

$550????? They saw you coming and the dollars sign starting blinging in their eyes!…That’s a $300 meal and $80-$90 wata…..they must have money in St Mary!!! And….not great? but…why do having generators make a difference because as far as I know most restaurants use cooking gas…..
Its good to know though that you’re willing to post bad reviews with good on places you eat….well done!
Yea the place is right on the highway so it’s tourist-ville lol. I expected to pay around $500 before even ordering. Considering 2 of us ate for $600 yesterday OFF the main road….yea it was a little high. LOL I have no idea why I equated a generator with the food. I guess I’m just giving the whole island a break on things right now because of the storm. 🙂
Oh, Gosh! You are in Jamaica, blogging and posting pics… my Jamaica My Way addiction is kicking into full gear… yay, yay, YAY!!!
Hi Kristi, thanks for the updates. when are you going to pass through Falmouth? I would love to read your impressions of our town.
So sorry I haven’t replied yet! I haven’t had regular access until now. Not sure when I’m hitting Falmouth this trip but would love to pass through. Such a charming little town!
thanks Kristi, enjoying the posts!,looking forward to the next ones, one love
thanks for sharing!,one love
Falmouth…One of my favorite towns! So quaint and lovely. I miss going through on our way to Runaway Bay. I have been known to talk a taxi driver to detour off the new road through there!!
I hope all is well with you Kristi!!
That food looks amazing! I’m still in need of finding a really authentic place that serves good Jerk dishes. Hope your meal was worth that hefty price!
That dish wasn’t all that great. The REAL good jerk stands are in the communities or personally made by friends!
OK. It seems like that’s always the case. Restaurants can’t always do authentic home cooking!
This is so tantalizing that my mouth watres! LOVE IT! I wish I could support your venture, but all I can do is pray that you go further and get all the assistance you need.Jah bless all di time!
