Gardening in Jamaica
I lied when I said small things don’t amuse me anymore in Jamaica. Cheap thrills with this video.
This is the place I used to live in Montego Bay. There’s a gardener that comes in once a week to keep our yard looking absolutely beautiful and although you can’t tell in the video, this machete-weilding guy actually did a miraculous job. It’s hard to imagine when you see pieces of shrub flinging wildly all over the place, that the finished product is a perfectly manicured yard.
I shot this video out my bedroom window on the spur of the moment. The following week I actually shot much more footage of him in the back yard but somehow that video got corrupted so I couldn’t use it. Boooooooo. So anyway, here’s a quick look at how he does it. The absolute funniest part about it: You can hear my friend Erin come in and mention Edward Scissorhands near the end of the video, and she told me that later that day the movie Edward Scissorhands ACTUALLY came on TV. We laughed over that one.
This is one of the few things I do miss about living in Ironshore, Montego Bay. Every day, gardeners came into the neighborhood to do their work in the huge yards up there. It wasn’t uncommon for me to walk with a random machete-carrying man or two when heading down the long road to the supermarket. I can just imagine how that would fly on a main street back home!
