One Bag, Two Months in Jamaica

It’s Good Friday in the world today and I’m packing my bags again to leave late on Easter Sunday night.  I’m setting out on a do-over of last year’s move to Jamaica, only this time I won’t be fending for myself so much.  It’s interesting this time though, there’s not my usual excitement in the air in the few days prior to leaving.  I think I see this time as “do or die”.  I’m absolutely going down for this job but of course you know my ulterior motives are always to find awesome new stuff to blog about.

I’ve managed to stuff my life into one bag this time instead of the two I took last time, and that includes toilet paper, ipod speakers and 5 pairs of sandals!  Yes, I’m that good at packing.

The reason I say “do or die” this time is because I think I’m getting a little tired of travel for the sake of just travel and fun.  I’m swaying more to the “travel with a purpose” way of life.  I just don’t know what my purpose is yet and if I can’t find it soon I’ll wonder what the point is.  It’s so foreign for me to be 3 days away from landing in Montego Bay and not be bursting at the seams and brimming with excitement!  Of course I’m envisioning my usual comfort zone of warm air, the smell of fire and all things Jamaican and I’m perfectly content with those thoughts.  I just want there to be more purpose this time and I’m blazing the trails to find what that purpose is.

My first week will be “vacation” in my old hood in Ocho Rios – I can’t wait to be reunited with my whole 4 friends (more like family) there.  Remember I keep a small circle of real friends, it’s just easier that way.  After that week I’ll be settling into my new digs in Montego Bay and I’m really looking forward to seeing the place and the location because I’m POSITIVE I have some misconceptions about the area LOL.  After settling in I’ll start my new job and the arduous task of finding new people I can trust in a new area.  I can’t deny the challenge is appealing to me because I love meeting people and separating the bad from the good.

Anyway, this will be my last blog post until I reach Jamaica. I also won’t have regular internet access for the first week so you all just have to wait LOL. Unless something crazy happens in transit and I feel like opening my laptop using free airport WIFI.

See you all on the flipside and HAPPY EASTER to you and your families!

    1. LOL Ayo!!! It’s taken years of practice and a lot of frustration being weighed down by baggage. I just got tired of carting suitcases and realizing I don’t use half the crap I bring!!

  7. Exactly … but I still make the same mistake on account of wanting something and realizing I don’t have it!
