Moving Back To Jamaica!!

jamaica canada flagsAin’t it funny how the universe works. After a semi-failed attempt to relocate to Jamaica at this EXACT SAME TIME last year, and subsequent 9 months of not being able to set foot on the island, several months of unemployment, and random other road blocks….the planets have aligned and BAM!!! All you fans in my Facebook group know the big news already but this post had to be done to explain all the circumstances that came together to facilitate my new move to Montego Bay!

For the last 9 months I’ve been kind of wandering around in a fog and grasping for ways to keep my Jamaica fires burning. Nothing was happening, I was running out of things to write about and really feeling the pressure of being a travel writer who doesn’t travel. That can’t work for long! So my girl Dyana of Do Jamaica Your Way , had a revelation in the shower one day about how to keep it alive until further notice – it really was HER idea to start all the interviews you’ve been readingร‚ย over the last few months.ร‚ย  It was also Dyana who ultimately facilitated the link between me and my new assignment in Montego Bay!

I don’t even really know how it all happened but one day I had an email in my inbox with a subject line of, “I would like to hire you!”.ร‚ย  Of course I replied and the initial “hire you” idea was writing blog posts.ร‚ย  Cool, I can dig it.ร‚ย  The short version of the story is that writing blog posts evolved into “I need someone in Jamaica to do some writing for me, can you do it?”.ร‚ย  This just seemed too good to be true and was all-around bad timing, as I had just started a job a couple months earlier.ร‚ย  But seriously, as a writer and Jamaica-holic the offer was too great to NOT consider.ร‚ย  And so there I sat…..considering…..and considering…..and wondering if several other factors could possibly work out to make this happen.

So I was really sold on the idea of the Montego Bay project and then I was browsing a travel bloggers group on Facebook last week and someone had posted contact information House Hunters International and mentioned that they were currently looking to cast people for some new episodes.ร‚ย  I sent a shot in the dark email to the contact and explained that I was almost cast last year for the show but in the end they didn’t want to do another rental story and I didn’t get the opportunity.ร‚ย  The contact emailed me back and said they are definitely interested again…..and BAM…3 days later I was cast for an episode!ร‚ย ร‚ย  We are filming in Jamaica mid-April.ร‚ย  I hope they have a good hair stylist!!

I’m leaving Canada on April 9 to start my new project and will be located in Montego Bay.ร‚ย  YAAAY!ร‚ย  Sooooo…..if any of you are traveling to the island and need an airport transfer I’m your girl!

  12. Hi Kristi, congrats! I saw what Jamie W said about August & I hope you are here then, because it’s going to be a big show with the 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

    1. Hey Claude, keep checking this blog because all my happenings get posted on here. I hope I’m there for the 50th too!

  13. Congratulations and well wishes for your MoBay project with House Hunters international.

    1. Thanks Marc! I love the name of your website, going to check it out now.

  14. Really loving this site!… I live here but know so little!
    hmmm… great read

    1. Thanks Kimroy! I’m so glad you’re reading and enjoying it!

  15. Though I have lived her all my life, it is often said that visitors know Jamaica more than the residents, simply because we hardly move around the island. your blog gives me truly interesting insights into my own country. Thanks Kristi!

    1. Thanks Brian! I think it’s true because we all take what we have for granted. I could tell you when Jamaica became independent over when Canada did, simply because I’m more interested in learning about your country. Grass is always greener, they say. Probably if you came to Canada you’d want to move around and see it all too!

Thanks a lot for reading and commenting ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Kristi: I have not been on your site for a long time because I got caught up with a few other things. I read quite a bit today and I want to congratulate you. You have really worked hard on your own to prove your worth and I hope that I will be able to see the episode(s) that you will be working in. Congrats again. It is a pleasure to read your stories.

Thanks so much! I’m really trying this but it never works the way I intend. However, I never have any regrets either and there’s always next times.

  17. CONGRATULATIONS!! I was so excited to find your blog a few months back!! My other half is on a third interview for a position with a large company in MoBay. We’ve been on the fence about whether or not he takes it if offered because of experiences we’ve had there (outside the resorts) and things other ex-pats have told us as far as safety around the island is concerned. As we move along in the process I would be very interested in striking a conversation with you about this. ๐Ÿ™‚ THANKS!!
