James Bond Beach

James Bond beach is in the parish of St Mary on Jamaica’s north coast. It was definitely worth the trip to go see it and the drive was just as beautiful. It’s only about 20 minutes from Ocho Rios and the drive is ALL coast. You follow the seaside to Oracabessa and you’re there!

So I shouldn’t make it sound so easy to find because we drove right past the sign and ended up in Port Maria, which wasn’t so bad because it just added time onto the beautiful drive! But anyways we found it and it was totally worth looking for. The beach was quiet!!! No one else there except 5 of us and one other party of 4.

In case you don’t know why it’s called James Bond beach, it’s because the author Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond novels here. There’s a place called Golden Eye near this beach where he wrote the books. Now you know! Another thing you should know is that there’s an admission cost of $350 JMD per person to get into the beach. I hate paying to get into beaches when there are so many free ones hidden away that most tourists don’t know about. But at least at James Bond beach you get a little bit for your money. There’s a decent sized changing and shower facility there. There’s also a full restaurant and bar called MoonRaker that serves up super fresh, just caught fish!

The day we hit this beach it was HOT HOT outside so I couldn’t wait to get in the water. It was so clear we could see all the little fish swimming at our feet. My friend even caught one in his hand and we played with it a bit. And the unobstructed ocean view was amazing here.

Beyond the bar there is a really big “yard” which is home to many large and international concerts, such as Bob Marley tribute, Sashi, and the latest – Follow Di Arrow which just happened in February. So a lot goes on at night at this sleepy-in-the-daytime beach.

I enjoyed the couple hours we spent here just chillin’ out. As I said, the drive alone is worth coming for and if you don’t like crowds this is a great beach to hang at. Oh and if you don’t have a ride, you could probably do it in a route taxi for no more than a few hundred JMD.

  1. i always hear about this beach because of the concerts that take place here.. thats cool that its pretty empty in the days.. i hate going to beaches that are overcrowded but honestly i think thats more of an issue in the US than it is on islands where the residents have access to the beach at anytime all throughout the year.

    1. Yah and it’s an issue at the public beaches in tourist towns too. Too much people dem!!! It was sooo nice to be on an empty beach.

Follow Di Arrow was here in Feb, I was supposed to go but I fell asleep LOL!!

  2. haven’t been there in YEARS! I think its time I revisit, I can use summer as my excuse.

    1. Who needs an excuse LOL!!

  3. LOL I made it to the follow di arrow concert in Feb. Crazy 9pm to like 9am

    1. I soooooooo wish I woulda made it to the show! But I knew it would be like that, last till morning and I just couldn’t do it! I was already super tired.

Spent most of the day 6-23-10 at this beach. All I can say, the place is great! The folks who ran the bar and restaurent, were full of character, and made the visit most enjoyable. Hope to travel there again, someday.

    1. Awesome Gene! I never went up to the bar part, but next time I go back I’ll spend more time and really enjoy. I hope you make it back there too!

  7. IN AMERICA DOLLARS , WHAT DOES IT COST TO VISIT JAMMES BOND BEACH

    1. It’s about $4 usd.

  8. We spent 2 days at James Bond Beach cause it was so close to our
rental house in Orocabessa and really loved the clear water
and no crowds. We were able to get drinks but no food. The snorkeling
was wonderful too and we loved the view….great place to hang out on
    the beach.

Greetings,I found out on my last trip that early birds can access James Bond beach for free before 7am..so i was there in the morning doing some laps with hundreds oc cute little fish..that does not apply the morning after a show ! cleanning oblige

    1. Hey thanks for the tip! I’m rarely up that early but I’m sure lots of readers will find that useful to know!

  10. Look at you helping me discover my own island! I went almost a month ago and while the beach is rather stunning, I didn’t enjoy having to pay either. It costs the same all these years later though ($350) so that’s a plus, but the only thing different is the fish at Moonraker Bar. The day I visited the fish was far from fresh and soooo expensive! Def not worth it!

    1. Thanks for the update on price Rochelle. Interesting that it hasn’t changed after ALL these years! I can only imagine the price of food is high here considering it’s a tourist spot.

Do children have to pay to get on to this beach? if yes? how much?

    1. Hi Cathy, to be honest I can’t be sure if they charge for children. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited this beach but I’m assuming that yes, they would need to pay. I don’t think there’s many deals to be had in Jamaica lol. Having said that, the cost of admission is only $350 jmd which is about $3.00.
