So….does this look appetizing to you?
Boiled green banana is another staple in the Jamaican diet, mostly for breakfast and usually served with saltfish and dumpling. That picture is a meal someone cooked us for breakfast. My mom took the picture and this was pretty much her first meal in Jamaica. She said the bananas looked like unhealthy sausage links LOL. But she was a trooper and tried it all anyways and loved it.

The first time someone served me banana for breakfast they served  it with a boiled up cabbage and veggie mish-mash of goodness. Lots of people have cooked me lots of things in Jamaica and I have to say that green banana is one of my favorites. They’re kind of bland after they get boiled but they’re an awesome side dish to anything greasy!

Mmmmm…love boiled green bananas.
We prepare ours with a mix of coconut milk and onions. Its a staple in the Samoan diet too.
Really?? Yummm that sounds awesome. Coconut milk makes anything better!!
That’s a weird looking dumpling, you sure that’s not a yam?…I think I’ll make that for breakfast tomorrow. Yum!
LOL it probably is yam. That picture was my mom’s plate and she can’t eat dumplin….so you win LOL!!
That looks delicious. My breakfast when I first reach home is saltfish and cabbage, banana, and dumplin. I’m usually asleep again 20 minutes after lol!

Is salt fish cheap in Jamaica? It is not that cheap here in Canada. Curious. I will be renting an apartment the next time I go to Jamaica and plan to ask the maid to take me to the market and teach me to cook a few things instead of her cooking for me.
