What YOU Said About Jamaican Attractions – Part 2

Last week I sent out an email to all our subscribers in an effort to do a “part 2” followup on what YOU, the readers, said about your most and least favorite Jamaican attractions and tours.  You can see the original reader feedback post RIGHT HERE.  Although participation this time around was pretty disappointing I still love the answers and photos from those of you who did respond and I totally appreciate your input!

So without delay, here’s what some of you currently think about tours and attractions in Jamaica.

What are your MOST favorite tours / attractions / things to do in Jamaica?

Mike wrote:  My favorite is easily rafting down the Rio Grande.  No other river rafting comes close.  I also really did enjoy feeding the Doctor birds at Rocklands bird sanctuary in Anchovy but I did it while Mrs. Salmon was still alive so it is probably very different these days.  I loved staying on Navy Island too.  One in a million experience.

Alma wrote:  The small, local beach bars in Negril, Nine Mile mountain, Bob Marley’s birth place and final resting place are our favorite places to visit so far.  We have also gone twice to Club Ambiance in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. Club Ambiance has wonderful staff and the setting is magical if you can FEEL its former glory 50 years ago and if you are prepared for a family visit to Jamaica amenities.

Tina wrote: One of my favorite things about Jamaica is the food and I have my favorite places that I must, must, must (notice the 3 musts) visit and one of them is the row of cookshops right at the border of Westmoreland and St Bess; the first corner after leaving Westmoreland into St. Bess. Fresh fried fish, corn-on-the-cob (if the right time of year) that has a bit of a bite to it, fresh bammy, and those little coconut treats with the red center….can’t wait to do it again and again. << In response to Tina, I know exactly where you’re talking about and I agree! There are many of these cookshop corners in Jamaica and they have amazing food!

What are your LEAST favorite tours / attractions in Jamaica?

Mike wrote:  The worst was visiting Appleton Estate.  Horrible tour and unlike any of the many distilleries I’ve visited in the States, they charged and it was over $10 USD.  Coupled with the cost of the transportation, it was certainly my low spot.  <<  In response to Mike, I’ve heard the tour is currently upwards of $30 USD now.  As for transportation costs, I think ALL transport costs on the island are wild!  Especially if you’re staying in a tourist town and going to places like Appleton Estate that are nowhere near tourist towns.  It’s crazy which is why I prefer to chauffeur myself around.
Alma wrote: Our LEAST FAVORITE places are the slick concrete mega resorts where NO ONE knows your name, no one calls you ‘baby girl’ and no one welcomes you home. << In response to Alma, I think most of us agree with you on this one!
