This is my second and last Jamaica accommodation review from my most recent trip, and it was a jewel of a find! It’s in the town of Junction, St Elizabeth, Jamaica which you may never have even heard of but Junction is surprisingly near to many south coast Jamaica attractions. I’m always on a mission to try and find as many accommodation options as possible for you guys!
During my last two weeks on the south coast I decided that I wanted to head up to Junction for the weekend and I knew from past drives through the town that there was more than one option for accommodations there. I had seen signs for a couple of places before. When I asked a friend of mine who lives in Junction which was the best place he told me that Southern Comfort guest house was the better option.
Upon entering the town coming from Southfield you’ll see a sign right at the beginning of the town for Southern Comfort guest house and I took a left down a small road that looks like it’s going nowhere. The road is called Women’s Center Road. I drove down a short way and took a right into the entrance to the guest house and was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. I’m never too sure about these small places in towns I’m not familiar with but this one looked beautiful! The property is much bigger than I thought, the parking lot is well paved and the office is located immediately inside the gate. The place looked super cute from the outside.
With small out-of-the-way places like this I wasn’t sure what to expect with pricing – sometimes when a foreigner inquires I feel like they could quote you a higher price simply because we’re foreign. But here, the prices are clearly posted in plain view in the office and they’re dirt cheap! Roughly $25.00 per night depending on currency exchange rates. Yaay! They also have options for more expensive rooms as you can see on the sign but in Junction you’ll never need AC to sleep. Because of its location in the hills it cools down really nicely at night.
I asked if I could see a room and a staff member gladly showed me room #11. I just wanted it for one night for myself and my other Canadian friend and we’re pretty simple and don’t require luxury. We were very pleasantly surprised upon entering the room.
Our single room was spotless with one queen bed and clean white sheets, the bathroom was sparkling clean with a really big shower. There was a flatscreen TV, free wifi, a closet and a back door that opened onto a small green space. It also has drive-up parking right in front of each guest room door. It was simple, very clean and PERFECT! I’ve paid more for much worse rooms many a time in the past.
With both windows open in the room we had a steady cool breeze blowing through and never even needed to use a fan.
This weekend happened right in the middle of us staying in a private home for a week that had NO water so we were dying for a shower and a shampoo. We got exactly what we wished for with the longest warm showers we could ever wish for, with fresh white towels to use afterwards.
Sitting on the front veranda we had a beautiful view of lush green hillsides and big houses across the way. The property is very quiet, pretty and comfortable.
The morning after our sleep we walked around the property a little bit more to find out what the on-site restaurant was all about. We went over there around 9:00 am and found out it doesn’t open until 11:00 am. That was a bit of a bummer since that meant we couldn’t get a real coffee to start our day, but we always travel with instant coffee in our bags so we just asked the front desk to bring us some cups of boiling water so we could make our own morning beverages. They were happy to do so.
Here’s what the restaurant and bar look like even though we never got to try anything there since we checked out after only one night.
I know you’re probably asking yourself, “Where the heck is Junction and why would I go there?” Junction is busy little town nestled in a valley only a few minutes drive from Southfield where the famous Lovers Leap is located. It’s also only twenty minutes drive to other famous spots like Little Ochie seafood place and The River at Alligator Pond on the south coast.
Southern Comfort guest house is within walking distance to the Junction town center where you can find everything you want! There are major supermarkets, lots of street vendors, excellent fried chicken and jerk spots in the town, all without the hassle of the touristy vibe. Also, the price of gasoline here is some of the cheapest I found in the two weeks I was on the south coast.
So there you have it…..if you never had a reason to visit Junction, St Elizabeth before, now you do. Even just to see a new town and explore a little. I personally love this town and have made it a point to visit there a few times. Now I have a favorite place to stay there as well. Next time I’ll check out the one called Junction Guest House just to see how it measures up. It’s always good to have options.
Below is the contact info for Southern Comfort guest house in Junction, although there are enough rooms here that if you just drive in I’m sure you’d get one.

Wow, what a find! I’d love to stay at a quaint place like this, and we’ll the price is incredible! Thanks
Vera and Kelly, it was a REAL awesome find and the price is definitely right~!
very nice!!! i would happily stay here! 🙂
Hi can you tell me if the price quoted is per person as I am very interested in staying there.
That price is per room, not per person.
Na wao! Lovely…
I know right! It was a gem of a find!
Very close to my in laws! Shared to Facebook for all our family to see! Thanks Kristi!
That’s so awesome Camilla! It’s very rare to find someone who actually knows Junction lol
Hi Kristi, The place looks lovely. Thanks for the review. Did you feel safe there and does the windows have glass or glass slacks.
Hey Freck! YES I felt totally safe there. The whole property is very quiet and away from the mainstream. The windows have glass and screen and Junction in general is very cool at nights. It was awesome!
Just stayed here over the weekend, it was quiet and provided what was necessary for a short stay out of town, would definately revisit.
That’s great Lorna! I’m happy now that I know someone who has tried it out!
The villas are pretty and the views are beautiful – but the place needs some tender loving care. The amenities were old fashioned. Bathrooms need hot water; I did not how to use the cooker(old time burner) You need to modernise the amenities. Visitors coming from abroad are use to certain creature comforts. Bugs were coming in the room-(need to put door blocks on to prevent bugs crawling into rooms). Ratty mats and rusty bath rails and cracked mirror in my room were the décor. No air conditioning. Delete repeated word fans had to be on all the time and you need to put mosquito nest on windows so that air comes in the rooms. The cable television had porn which wasn’t blocked out and my son got a shock from it. You need to have a mini fridge in each room to store our snacks and drinks. We had to share fridge with other guests-things went missing, You have to think ahead when going to provide service for the guests or they will not come back. Also it seems this place was built for the locals and not for international visitors in mind. Butch Stewart is successful because he says he is always listening to the customers, particularly the ladies. Care about the customers and they will care about your business. The staff needs to be trained in customer service and hotel management. Sometimes the guests need assistance and there was no one there. Someone should always be at reception. Cambridge International College are courses that can be done in the convenience of your home and at a small cost for staff in Hotel Operations and Management Diploma. And when I arrived there in 2014 May this is what I faced with my sons and 6 other guests. They know we are coming and they did not have an extra bed in the room and charges thousands of dollars more for the bed per night. Sort oonu self out! So I hope you have improved your services in 2017. The charges are too much. The rooms should be at a standard where you do not have to be finding extra cash for the amenities for us poor folks from the UK. I am Jamaican and I would like to see better.
John, I’m surprised at your comments because my experience here was GREAT! I stayed here in January 2016 and it was VERY clean and up to date. My windows had screens on them and I had the hottest water I could ever want at a guest house in Jamaica. I see that you visited in 2014 so it seems they have updated things since your stay. Although, the porn thing happened to me when I turned on the TV as well lol. But otherwise it was a fantastic place to discover and stay at.
I stayed here back in 2014, it had not been open long, and I thought it was amazing, we sat with the owner on our first night, I could not fault it.
I’m am coming back in December for 2months, and will be looking to stay here for at least 3wks of my stay
That’s excellent Fiona! I also loved it and would love to get back to that side and hang out a bit longer. Safe travels!
Thank you for this article. I will definitely visit since I am looking for affordable accommodation. glad to know it is close to little ochie.
Yes! I loved this guest house and was so glad to have found it! I might head back there sometime for a couple of days simply because it was a nice place and Junction is a great town to visit.
