Over all these years I haven’t really delved into Bob Marley much on this blog. I just figured the world knows who he is and that was that. But I watched an episode of “Celebrity Legacies” last night and Bob Marley was the focus. It was fascinating!  For example, did you know that it was Eric Clapton’s cover of “I Shot The Sheriff” that catapulted Bob Marley to #1 on the charts outside of Jamaica?
Not only did this documentary follow the course of his life and career, it went much deeper into what was left in the wake of his passing. It also mentions really cool facts like how Marley gave songwriting credit for one of his hits to a neighbor in Kingston just so this man could use the royalties to keep his soup kitchen for the poor open. Fascinating!
One of the most intriguing things to me was that planning for the event of death was against his Rastafari beliefs so he had no will nor any legal documents pertaining to what should happen with his estate after he was gone. This documentary goes deep into all the law suits that carried on for decades after Bob Marley’s passing, how it affected his all his children, and his wife Rita Marley.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find the full episode on Youtube but all you Netflix and online TV watching people should look for it. It is infinitely informative and well worth watching, especially if you’re a Bob Marley lover.
