Club Caribbean Court – Salem, St Ann

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of being invited to check out a couple of great vacation apartments in a prime spot on Jamaica’s north coast.  I stayed in one of the apartments and was able to walk through the other one for the purpose of this review.  Both of these apartments are located at the Club Caribbean Court complex in Salem, St Ann.

The Location

This gated and secured complex is located in Salem which is just outside of Runaway Bay, Jamaica.  This is such a great location because it’s only a 20 minute drive east to Ocho Rios and a 45 minute drive west to Montego Bay.  The property is set back from the main highway in a prime spot with a supermarket, Scotiabank ATM, souvenir shop and a beauty salon all within five minutes walk.  Across the main highway you’ll also find several small bars that aren’t too crowded.  During my stay I spent a lot of time across the street playing pool at a bar called Just One More.

Behind the property are private residential homes and if you walk a block down a small street you’re right at the seaside.  You can’t swim at the edge of the water here but it’s beautiful to sit on the rock wall and listen to the waves crash into the rocks, as I did one afternoon.

The Apartments

Both apartments I experienced are one-bedroom, fully self contained suites with full kitchens, full bathrooms, fans, air conditioning, hot water, cable TV, free WIFI and plenty of space for lounging.  The property also has coin laundry facilities that are open to all residents and guests.  I happened to do laundry during my week here and each wash load costs $500 jmd, with lines to dry your clothes on.  The nearby supermarket sells small bags of laundry soap for less than a dollar.

Apartment #16 is the one I stayed in which is up on the second level of the building.  It was the cutest place ever complete with stairs leading up to a loft bedroom on the very top level.   Even though I didn’t cook at all in my place I did have a full 4-burner gas stove, microwave, full fridge, coffee maker, blender, toaster and pretty much everything I’d need if I decided to cook.  My bed upstairs was comfortable and the breeze that flows through this top-level apartment kept the place really mild most nights.  I did use the AC to cool off the bedroom before sleeping but during the day the fan sufficed just fine.  Also worth noting is a ton of closet space in the bedroom which also had a LOT of spare linens and towels inside.

Apartment #8 is directly below #16 and is a bungalow style at ground level.  It’s also a one-bedroom and contains all the conveniences that #16 has, without the stairs to the bedroom.

Both apartments open out onto a beautiful courtyard with a full size pool that’s never crowded.  I think during my week long stay at this property myself and my co-travelers were the only group of people who actually used the pool!

What’s Nearby

Probably the most notable attraction that’s very near these apartments is Flavors beach.  It’s an awesome (and free) beach that has a full bar, cook shop, lots of parking and a changing area so all you need to do is show up!  Flavors is about a 5 minute drive up the main road or a 15 minute walk and unless it’s a holiday its a relatively quiet beach.  Not much crowd to deal with.

Also within a short driving distance is the Runaway Bay golf club.

My Conclusion

I LOVED staying in this complex!  The apartments are super clean – like I didn’t even seen a single ant anywhere which is somewhat unusual anywhere in Jamaica.  I almost wanted to leave some sugar on the kitchen counter to see if ants even exist around here!  The location is super convenient even if you don’t have a car to get around.  There’s so much to do in the vicinity.  And the rates for each apartment are very affordable.

So would I recommend the place?  ABSOLUTELY!
