First 24 Hours In Jamaica

My First Day Back

So here I sit at Burger King in Ocho Rios using their wifi. For this week of vacation before I start my new job I’m staying in Steertown with a friend. No internet up there.

ANYWAY…..this is just a rundown of my first 24 hours on the island before any adventures begin. I flew standby again and I’ve never had a more seamless experience than this time. Usually the flights are full and I never know if I’m ever going to arrive at my destination but both my flights were great! The first one was half empty so I got a whole row to stretch out and lay down, but forget sleeping. I just can’t sleep on planes which sucks because the redeye flights make it so that by the time I actually arrive on the island and get to where I’m going it’s been 36 hours that I’ve had no sleep.

So flights went well, left home at 1:00am and landed in Montego Bay at 2:00pm the next day. I have rented a car for my first week and my BFF from Ocho Rios came to the airport with it and we drove back together. He called and was stuck in traffic which meant I would just drink more rum while I waited, and try to figure out where I’m going to get a new Digicel chip since I let my old number I’ve had for 4 years expire…booooo. I find out Digicel at the airport is closed due to Easter holidays but wouldn’t you know some random dude OF COURSE has a chip to sell me LOL!! I love Jamaica. So he sells me a chip and some credit and I’m good to go!

**Funny Fact**

When I went to Digicel to top up my new number I accidentally sent $2000 credit to someone else’s phone because I couldn’t remember my new number. Oooops. Amazingly enough I called the number and asked for it back and I GOT IT!!!

Drove into Steertown, dropped my bags and we headed into Ochi to see my people, and the whole time I’m feeling deliriously tired and can barely keep my eyes open. A couple drinks of rum sealed the deal for me and I was SO tired I couldn’t even drive home. Had to get my friend to take me back and I dropped into bed by about 10:00pm. I was freezing cold, the weather is unusually cool right now which I enjoy. I wore pants to bed and listened to rain through the night. It was beautiful and I slept a hard 10 hours.

This morning I woke up sick as a dog. Nose plugged, sneezing and not feeling great at all. I’ve never been sick in Jamaica! Took a cold shower under a pipe this morning and felt so refreshed, had a coffee on the veranda and headed into Ochi….where I’m sitting right now.

Let the adventures begin!
