The Knutsford Express is one giant and very pretty bus in Jamaica!  It’s comfortable, clean, on time, and services all the major points you want to go in Jamaica.  I’ve been meaning to take this bus for YEARS and the time finally came last weekend!  I can’t do anything but rave about this bus service in Jamaica so I had to pass on the experience to you guys.  You really can’t afford not to try it!

The Knutsford Express is a huge bus like a Greyhound in North America but a lot cheaper.  It has stops in all major points you would like to get to including Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril, Kingston, Mandeville, Savannah La Mar, Port Antonio, Black River (Luana).  Yes it costs more than a route taxi or minibus but lets face it, not everyone wants to sit on someone’s lap for a couple hours in a hot and stuffy ride.  And it costs WAY less than a charter taxi or bus.

This bus has scheduled pick up times in each town which are clearly posted on their website, along with the locations and ability to purchase your ticket online.  You can also just show up at the pick up point and purchase your ticket in the office there.  In a country where nothing is really straight forward this was one of the easiest processes I’ve ever been through here.  I bought mine online, received a confirmation in my email, showed up at the pick up spot the next morning and they printed my ticket.  I also received a free bottle of water before I boarded the bus to Kingston.

Inside was like heaven.  The seats were a great size, it was air conditioned, there were movie screens, a bathroom and my bus was half empty so we could stretch out.  I didn’t take any photos inside the bus because I didn’t want to offend the other passengers. The ride from Ocho Rios to Kingston was smooth and the driver courteous, he even played a whole Madonna soundtrack for us!  😀

I highly recommend the Knutsford if you want to do any day trips to other towns and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a chartered ride. You will get there comfortably and on time. I don’t have one negative thing to say about this bus except that I rode in the very back on the way home from Kingston and experienced nausea while texting on winding country roads. But that’s not the bus’s fault!

Check out their website for schedules, pick up points and to buy tickets online at KNUTSFORD EXPRESS JAMAICA.

And I even found them on Facebook so JOIN THEIR PAGE.

Thanks for the information, Kristie. I never knew about this bus. It reminds me of the ADO buses in Mexico

  3. This service is awesome. I went to Jamaica in August and I took this bus from Kingston along with my son to Ochio Rios and the ride was great. I would recommend this service to anyone. The service is beautiful and the ride is comfortable.

  4. my mom took tht once and she enjoyed it

  5. So true!!!! You’d really pay an arm and a leg if you charter! Total rip off. My parents think I have shares in Knutsford Exp. ha ha Quit a comfortable ride. Wish they made more stops but figure that would defeat the purpose of being ‘fast and efficient’ if you stopped every 5 mins.

Last trip wasn’t so great though driving through Breadnut Hill (Ochi) with all its narrow roads and sharp corners (not fit for a bus of that size) Had to close my eyes for the entire journey and trust that I’d get to Kgn safely!

    1. OMG was that the detour they had because of Fern gully being closed?? That’s exactly how my ride was too, I was scared shitless LMAO! Went up past Steertown and that way. Bare CLIFF deh pon left side a di bus!!! Those drivers are my hero lol.

I’ve never been on the Knutsford Express but would like to just for the experience. I always travel from Lucea to Kingston on a coaster bus which costs $750. There are only two services a day from Lucea early morning and are reliable and quite comfortable. Boss and Mikey run these services and are popular. Ive seen the Knutsford bus in Mobay bus park and will definitely be trying out a ride next time I want to go to Kingston or even Ochi.

    1. Yes Janet it’s definitely worth a try. Even for just a day trip. I really enjoyed it.

It’s my second time travelling with this service , and it s a pleasure for me to recommend a friend or famz to experience it for themselves / entertainment I give 5*****/ journey /driving spot on

    1. Thanks for the comment Gillian! And yes, it’s a great bus huh.

  9. I traveled on this bus from Kingston to Montego Bay and then to the airport in 2011 and I completely enjoy the trip. The bus left on time so I never had to rush when I reached the airport to catch my flight home. The driver was soooo courteous and friendly and I loved the oldies that he played. I am planning a trip in August with my two grandsons and we will definitely be traveling with Knutsford Express to get into Kingston. That way my grandsons can get a glimpse of our beautiful country seeing that this will be their first trip to Jamaica. Way to go Knutsford Express.

We took the Knutsford Express on April1,2014 from New Kingston to Mo Bay and connected to Negril from Mo Bay. The driver from Kingston was the ultimate professional. He was courteous and very considerate of his passengers. The drive through the Bog Walk Gorge, up Mt. Rosser, down Mt Diablo and through Fern Gully was flawless. We never felt nervous with this driver at the controls.

When we reached Mo Bay the connection was there waiting and our luggage was already transferred before we could get off the bus. The transfer was seamless but the driver from Mo Bay to Negril was a little wild. Instead of driving if you would like to relax and enjoy the beauty of Jamaica this is the way to go.

    1. Excellent Cynthia! I still say the Knutsford is one of the best finds I’ve tried in Jamaica. Excellent service.

  14. I always travel from Montego Bay to Kingston on Knutsford, it is the safest and efficient way to travel between two areas… it’s comfortable, relaxing and the scenery is serene.

  17. “RSO advise against using public transport, with the exception of the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA) or local hotel taxis. Public buses are often overcrowded and a venue for crime. ” – source: https://www.osac.gov/Pages/ContentReportDetails.aspx?cid=21545

    1. While that may be true it doesn’t mean every single taxi and mini bus are trouble. Thousands of people use public transport successfully every single day.
