For those of you who don’t know, all the songs about Clarks (yes the shoes) sung by Vybz Kartel have pretty much taken over the island. For those of you who DO know, this post will totally make sense.
One morning I was taking a shower in my guest house and out the bathroom window I could hear a child singing “Clarks” over and over again. It was pretty cute so I made it my mission to go look for these kids when I hit the road that day. They couldn’t be hard to find because they were in the yard of the house behind us. All I had to do was go around the corner.
So I found them in their yard and asked them which one was singing “Clarks” all morning. Of course all three of the boys stepped up and wanted to perform so I asked them if I could take video. As I’ve mentioned in lots of previous posts the kids in Jamaica ALL want to perform so of course they agreed. In exchange I agreed to go to the store and buy them all some candy.Â
The video is hilarious because the kid singing missed so many words in the song, and there’s always that ONE in the background who doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing but is giving it his best shot anyways LOL. And they all got a bag of candy in the end!
And even though I can’t stand Vybz Kartel I’ll post the actual video here anyways just because it’s related.

Trust me, you’re nobody unless you wear Clarks in Jamaica. Clarks RUN the island! And believe it or not, they are not expensive. Buy them in Kingston (close to Cross Roads) for half the price in the UK and they’re the real thing.
Tell me about it Janet! I heard the price of them doubled once these songs came out. Maybe it’s back to normal now.
LMAO….
and does anyone know what their actual price is in JA? online havent seen cheaper than $150USD and that was on sale!!
Thats why everyone was wearing Clarks when I was in JA!! Now it makes sense 🙂
Yea Marianna, Clarks have been big there for a long time. This post was a couple years ago already, when Kartel’s Clarks songs were real big in the Jamaican music scene. Seems all the kids knew how it goes to. So cute.
