Some of my readers have asked me to make sure I take note of local places I’ve eaten and bring back the stories so here’s a great little place to stop. It’s called High Hopes and it’s located right on the main highway between Montego Bay and Discovery Bay – closer to Montego Bay. It’ll be on your left hand side while driving east.

This was a spur of the moment place we just picked because we were starving after our flight. The location is excellent – right on the waterfront! So we walked in, had the place to ourselves and ordered 4 rounds of fried chicken.

We didn’t wait very long for our chicken to be served at all, which is a treat compared to some Jamaican places I’ve eaten. Some places can take up to an hour on Jamaican time! While we waited we noticed that some people may even qualify for credit at this joint hahaha.

Once our chicken arrived we were all delighted at the size of the plates, LOTS of food and it only cost $400 JMD for fried chicken, rice & peas and some veggies on the side. We were even entertained by this adorable little one while we ate. She was a real charmer and not shy at all.

We spoke to the owner Maria before we left and she was very friendly and business minded. She even told us that if we ever wanted to come back and would like to special order something in advance we could just call her and they’d prepare anything we want. She also mentioned that if larger groups were coming she could also take advance orders for the group. Unfortunately I lost track of her phone number she gave us.
Another great thing about the restaurant is it has a bar right next door, so basically this is a full-service little roadside stop. I regret that we didn’t make it back here for another meal but I think I’ll definitely be stopping in next time I’m coming from the airport. The fried chicken was enough to make me want more.

OMG that little girl is adorable!
Isn’t she pretty?? Her eyes are so big and beautiful!
J.C. how far a drive is it from Montego Bay to Discovery Bay. Also which is the best place to eat oxtail? I luv luv oxtail.
That drive is only about 30 mins. Unfortunately I can’t tell you about oxtail because I don’t eat it. Not much of a meat eater, only chicken and fish.
If you want a nice sit down place they have huge portions and friendly service.

I did a blog post about The Native restaurant. It’s here: http://www.jamaicamyway.com/jamaican-food/the-native-restaurant-montego-bay/
The food was great there but unless it’s changed in the last couple years, the portions weren’t all that big for the price – as you can see in my photos.
