This is my second post on Prospect Plantation, the first you can SEE HERE. I’m posting in sections because there was just so much to see and a lot of information I learned. So we’ve covered the Great House and now I’m going to show you some (a fraction) of the things you can see along the tour.
Prospect Plantation is a working plantation and I think they grow everything on the planet here! Allspice, lime, every fruit under the sun, coffee, and the list goes on. And I did learn a LOT of new things that day…..pineapple does not grow on a tree! I’m not sure what made me think it did but I was shocked to see it coming up out of the ground!

Another thing that surprised me is that Allspice is actually grown as Allspice…go figure. I thought it was a blend of spices packaged as “Allspice” for stores to sell. Allspice is native to Jamaica. Our tour guide also picked some leaves off a lime tree and wouldn’t you know that the leaves smell just like limes! Tangy and fresh. I carried mine for a long time on the tour and buried my face in my hands occasionally to breathe in the citrus smell.

This fruit cart was about midway through the tour with every tropical fruit imaginable! I have video of the guide going through and explaining every single fruit and plant in this picture, which is quite informative and entertaining. I won’t post the video though or you might not be inclined to take the tour 🙂 You’ll also get to munch on fresh coconut sprinkled with brown sugar here…it was awesome!

Here’s a video of one of the tour guys climbing the coconut tree to show how it’s done. I’ve also seen people do this on the beach and sell the fresh coconut they pick.
The educational aspect of the plantation tour is incredible whether you’re into things that grow or the history of the great house. Like I mentioned in the last post it’s definitely worth the tour! And yes, there’s even some unique livestock here….ostriches and camels. Who would have thought!

And no plantation pond full of lily pads would be complete without a giant bullfrog! Stay tuned for a third and final post on Prospect plantation at a later date.

LOL @ pine growing from trees. You know, so many of my American friends thought pine grew from trees as well…interesting lol! This seems like a tour I’d be interested in. I’d be full and fat of fruit by the end :).
Yep you get to eat coconut all you want on the tour. It was soooo yummy.
