Alright this is my second installment of churches in Jamaica, you can see my first post about them HERE.
This time all the churches are in the same town, Port Maria in the parish of St Mary. This day we literally just wandered the streets ALL day long on foot and took pictures of everything. If you gathered from my first church post that I’m obsessed with the look of churches in Jamaica, you’re right!
The church in the picture above is what inspired my need to waste a day doing this. That one is perched on a hilltop and can be seen for miles coming into Port Maria and when I spotted it I knew I had to get there! It was a montrous structure! All old and creepy looking…awesome! And right after that one we came upon this tiny, charming little church. It was so cute.
As we wandered we happened upon the funeral home in Port Maria as well. I know it’s not really a church but where else is it gonna fit into this blog?
I saved the best one for last in this post. This next church is right on the way into town, you can’t miss it. In my obsessive opinion it is STUNNING! This church is mere feet from the Caribbean sea and looks so old and weathered, yet full of charm and character. You couldn’t find a church like this anywhere except a scary movie…complete with a cemetary in the yard!
There was even a funeral going on this day AND dark stormy skies. This is perfect!

Hi!
My name is Melinda. I got back home from Jamaica on Feb. 25th. It was my eighth year going there on a medical/dental mission. One of our clinics are held in the church on the hill. That is one of my favorite places to work.
I really enjoy reading about your adventures in Jamaica. My famiily thinks I do some crazy things but they just don’t know the beauty of Jamaica and the people.
Melinda
Wow Melinda it’s nice to talk to someone who’s been inside that church! I’d love to see the inside….it must be beautiful.
That’s awesome you do mission work there. I’ve always considered it but I’m never able to stay longer than 10-14 days. In the future I might plan to do something since I’m planning a long term stay later this year.
Thanks for reading! Glad you like it. Yes Jamaica is a place all it’s own…can’t beat the culture of that island. 🙂

Hi Melinda,
Its nice to see my home community on display. I live in the San Francisco area of California but I grew up in Port Maria. I was christened in the church on the hill ( Kirk United church). My family still has a home on Stennett Street. I will be in Jamaica next month for a short visit. I cant wait to see these places in person. Thanks for doing charity work for my home country, and community. God bless you.
