This place isn’t really called “ghetto beach”. It’s more commonly referred to as Little Dunns River but a friend of mine introduced it to me as Ghetto beach, so the name stuck. This little hideaway is located right outside Ocho Rios, off the main highway across from Dunns River falls. The hike down the hillside to the water wasn’t super easy to do, and getting back up was worse but it was a true little hidden treasure. Since this blog post was written many years ago in 2009, it’s possible that getting into this area is a little easier to navigate in present day. I’ve never gone back for an update.
The hike down was through some thick trees which just made excellent photo opportunities. This is looking through the trees out onto the sea.
There really isn’t much of a “beach” down here, just a small patch of free space to sit and enjoy. But we brought our own snacks and some overproof rum and cranberry juice. Anything is better with rum! Us girls mostly enjoyed the water while the guys chilled on the sand.
Interestingly enough there was a little cook shop down here! Some Rasta had a little shack and was cooking up and selling fish. The boys visited with the locals by the shack and had some of the fish while we swam. Here’s a picture of the cook shop from one side. I should have taken a picture of it, but off to the left in those trees there was a hammock hanging over the water. It was awesome.
This next picture shows how close this little spot is to Ocho Rios and the cruise ship docks.
We spent a couple hours enjoying our rum and cheese buns. The weather was cool this day and the water was refreshing. A couple of the boys enjoyed the waterfalls and there were a few other locals having a nice time down here. Not super eventful but exceptionally pretty!

Its a very fun place i HIGHLY reccomend it. The locals call it CARWASH because a car wash was once at that location.
I’m assuming you mean the carwash was on the roadside at this beach right? LOL cuz it was quite the foot hike getting down to the actual beach. 🙂
I think they call this beach ONE LOVE BEACH 🙂
ive heard of “ghetto beach” as well through a local who hangs out there… didnt have the chance to check it out…just yet! so thanks for sharing the pics in the meantime 🙂
I’d love to know where to find this place!
We’re stayin in Ocho Rios ourselves and would really enjoy spending a few hours here! If you could give me an adress or just directions that would be amazing! I hope you can help us!
Jordan I think this is what they call Reggae beach now. It’s off the side of the main highway into Ocho Rios. Ask some locals and they can tell you exactly how to get there.

No Marvin, not that I know of.
When I was in St. Ann (staying in Priory) I asked around for how to get to ghetto beach and people looked at me funny every time haha. Turns out the actual name is Little Dunn’s River. I guess everyone gives these uncommercialized local places their own names though. Enjoyed the visit!
Rochelle, I think that’s the way it is. There are several names for the same places depending who you talk to. It’s the same as Blue Hole in Ochi. When I discovered it many many years ago it was Blue Hole but now that it’s a tourist attraction it has several other names attached to it.
