This is gonna be a love/hate post….you’re gonna love what you hear about this place but hate me for not telling where it is in Ocho Rios. My reasons for not telling are simple….its a hidden little gem that caters mostly to locals. Its super cheap and I’d like it to stay that way for many reasons, but mostly so it remains a place where locals can still afford to stay.
A Jamaican friend of mine tipped me off to this place because she had stayed there before. Its UNBELIEVABLY cheap, like $24,000 JMD for a full 2 weeks!! That converted to about $350, or $28 a night!! What?? When I booked it sight unseen I have to say I was a little leary about checking in but was pleasantly surprised with the overall look and feel of the place!

I had booked a room with a kitchen because I like the ability to cook while I’m in Jamaica. When I came to check in they made a mistake and had to put me in a top floor room with no kitchen for the first night. No big deal….except the stairs, it was like 4 levels up! But here are pics of the first room which to my surprise was huge for the price!!

One the second morning they finally transferred me to the room I’d be in for the next 13 nights. Again I was pleasantly surprised at what I got for such little money!! This room was huge, had a full kitchen with a two-gas-burner stove, air conditioning and a walk-in closet. It was located on the second floor. Here are some pics of that room.
My full review of this place is RAVING! I’ve paid 3 times as much for half the size with cockroaches. There were NO bugs in this place, tons of room to just hang. It had more of an apartment building feel to it, all the neighbors are friendly and I kid you not….one night someone came over to borrow some salt! And the same people the next night invited me over for drinks!
The locals that hang around here are known to everyone and are super friendly. One rasta actually set up a couple excursions for us and took me out to play pool one afternoon. The staff is excellent…the asked every day if I wanted my room cleaned and they are super trustworthy. I always had money laying around, my laptop in the closet, MP3 player and speakers laying around, etc. Everything remained intact. One of the housekeepers even handwashed a bunch of my laundry for a measley $200 JMD.
The location is great, close to the Shaw Park area. Its about a 10 minute walk down a hill to town, there’s a supermarket literally right outside the front gates. And the gates are locked at night with round the clock security. It was fabulous.

Nice post – we don’t want to let too many people know about our little secret otherwise prices will go up and as you say it is not a tourist villa. nice pic. I suppose Little Shaw Park has lost your custom now.
Nice post Jammie. I understand how you guys want to keep it low-key so the locals can get more bang for their buck. Pretty thoughtful of you 🙂
We should all stay there for the Nov-Dec linkup. It’ll really have that apartment building feel with us in our separate rooms
